Long Live John Paul II
All the news that gives you fits.If there were ever a Pope ready for Sainthood, it would be our dearly departed Pope John Paul II. He had the moral convictions to correct some of the earlier errors of the Catholic Church. He forgave Galileo for daring to state that the Sun, not the earth was the center of the universe. He made a pilgrimage to Jerusalem "to forgive" those of the Jewish persuasion for allegedly "killing Christ"--he then set the record straight by saying the Jews were falsely accused for over 2,000 years and then apologized to all Jewish people for this malefaction. He spoke out against tyranny and injustice. He practiced what he preached. If only he had lived longer, perhaps he would have given women their equal status in the Catholic Church.
The world is diminished greatly by his absence. Hopefully, the new pope will follow this beloved pope's example.

Nice blog on our Holy Father. If you've ready any writings of his though, you would know that no matter how long he lived there would not have been women priests (if that is what you are inferring). Actually I have to side with biobrat on this one. The official teaching of the church is that the Jews were not ultimately responsible for the death of Jesus. The Pope asked for forgiveness for any sins committed by Christians in the name of Christ against the Jews. I agree, he will be missed and we can only hope and pray that the next Pope will be as wise and loving as Pope John Paul II.
I agree that Pope John Paul was a decent and holy individual. I remember hearing or reading a story about the pope passing a young teenage girl sitting along side a railroad track. The girl it seems had been a holocaust survivor recently released from a concentration camp after the european liberation. She was too weak to walk home to her village and as the sory goes, John Paul carried her there himself. A decent man!
To continue....I disagreee with the Pope's position on abortion, premarital sex, and homosexuality.
I think that although a good and decent man...he dropped the ball on the recent revelations concerning pedophiles in the priesthood.

It's not the Pope's position that you disagree with, it's every Pope and every believing Catholic (Christian) since it all began almost 2,000 years ago. I don't mean to put you on the spot, but I'm just curious. Have you read any of the Holy Father's writings? If not, how do you know you really disagree? Humane Vitae is an excellent encyclical available on the net and it addresses the issues that you talk about. I'm not that interested in that you disagree, but more as to why you disagree. I find that many people say they disagree with the church on particular issues and when I lend them books or articles even if they still maintain their position they have a clear understanding of what the church teaches and why. Many people haven't read a religious book since they were forced to as a child. But as educators I don't think it is a good idea to condemn anything that has to do with life and death glibly.Glad at least that you could see the John Paul was a good man. I know many people who met him over the years who were amazed at his ability to love and connect with each and every person who came to see him. It was nice seeing you the other day by the way!
Thank you Peter, Nice meeting you also! - Miles
Boys, please stop fighting, We have a new Pope and I have a question, "The Pope was liberal until he became a cardinal. He was forced into a Nazi youth camp, which he deserted. Now here is the question--will he become more liberal once again since he is no longer Pope John Paul II's ENFORCER?" I think he will" What are your views?
PH
Sorry you considered that fighting. Miles is a gentleman, as I try to be. How do you figure that the new Pope was once Liberal? I'm worried about you. I've heard spinning before, but aren't you dizzy yet? lol ....Have you read anything written by him or about him? He has always been a religious conservative, and that's why he was elected. As far as the Nazi thing goes, have you read what the Jersalem Post said about him? I'll send it to you if you'd like, I don't want to take up your space here.
